Queensland Young Professionals – Leslie Harrison and Sideling Creek Dam Site Visits

In October 2018 the ANCOLD Queensland Young Professionals Group had the opportunity to visit two under-construction dam sites near Brisbane, at different stages of construction. A group of 35 young professionals from Seqwater, Sunwater, DNRME, GHD, SMEC, Jacobs and Klohn Crippen Berger visited both Leslie Harrison Dam and Sideling Creek Dam.

Representatives from the owners, designers and contractors were at each site to give the group an overview of the upgrade process and a detailed site tour from different perspectives. The group learnt the drivers for the upgrades, the design process and decisions to address the risks, and how the design was actually being constructed on site. Even the hour long bus ride to each site was not wasted time, with the group learning “Risk Assessment 101” for risk based dam upgrades from GHD’s Malcolm Barker.

The QLD YP’s would like to thank everyone involved in the coordination of the day and for taking the time to present/be a tour guide and to ANCOLD for their support. Feedback from the group was that it was a very informative and worthwhile day.
