This paper explores recent and anticipated future drivers for regulatory change, which will impact dam owners and professionals involved in managing dam safety. Referencing recent developments in Australia, the UK and the USA, the paper considers the regulatory response to major incidents, adaptation to the pressures of climate change, the drivers for increased transparency to the public and improvements in emergency planning.
