Dear Colleagues,

We have finalized the update of the Piping Toolbox considering the comments which many of you provided.

This has resulted in many editorial changes, corrections and clarifications.

Most important of the changes are:

  1. Section 7.6.3 has been added describing how to estimate hydraulic shear stresses in vertical cracks where the flow in the crack is controlled by filter or transition at the downstream end of the crack.
  2. Section 7.5.2 has been elaborated upon to emphasize the importance of considering swell of the sides of cracks.
  3. Section 9.4.2: the probabilities of progression of backward erosion piping in Table 9.3 have been adjusted.

We thank those who have commented on the draft. Your comments have resulted in a much-improved document. We will forward to each of you our response to your comments.
