19 July. The ATC Williams Laboratory, located in Mordialloc, opened its doors to Victorian young professionals for an educational tour of the laboratory. The visitors were given a tour of the lab and its facilities by the Lab Manager, Luke Renkin. The tour highlighted various geotechnical and tailings testing equipment, including triaxial equipment, pinhole test, Emerson, and Rowe cell.
Kevin Hii, PhD, a Process Engineer at ATC provided insights into the use of pipe loop equipment in the design of tailings pipe networks. Additionally, Geotechnician John Walker offered a detailed explanation of rheology and Transportable Moisture Limit testing procedures.
Following the enlightening tour, Andrew Fyans, a Senior Associate Engineer and the Lead of the Dams Technical Community, delivered a presentation on the Applications of Laboratory Testing in Dams Engineering Design. The afternoon was filled with insightful discussions that underscored the crucial role laboratory testing plays in informing and guiding embankment and filter design.
The ATC Williams Laboratory, established in 1993 and accredited by NATA, was developed with the aim of offering tailings and soils testwork services. These services support projects in the dams and tailings industry, and even the maritime industry.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to ATC Williams and the ANCOLD Victoria Young Professionals Working Group for their efforts in making this event a success. This visit served as a testament to the continuous learning and development opportunities available to young professionals in the industry.
Thanks to ATC Williams for their support with this event.
