The event was hosted online by the NT chapter EP, on 12 June 2024. Close to 200 people attended this event.
Five tailings dam break experts from five major consultancies in Australia have been invited to discuss this topic. Twelve questions surveyed by the ANCOLD members cover multiple aspects of the tailings dam break assessment have been discussed by the panel. The Topics cover tailings parameters selection, modelling technique and risk aspect of the dam break.
The discussion provided a great overview of the current industry’s approach to addressing the tailings dam break assessment. The limitations and gaps for both guidelines and software have also been discussed. The discussion was well received by the attendees. The Q&A session was hosted after the panel discussion which extended the session for another half an hour.
The event was a valuable experience to bring the industry together to share knowledge of this area. Thank you for the panel for their time and wonderful discussion!
